Why Rudra Abhshekam? 
Rudra abhishekam is a Vedic Hindu ritual that involves a ceremonial bathing of the Shiva Linga with offerings like milk, honey, and water, while chanting mantras. It is a powerful ceremony to worship Lord Shiva in his Rudra form, intended to please the deity and bring prosperity, peace, and well-being by removing negativity and evil forces. This ritual is believed to fulfill wishes and bring happiness. 

Key aspects of Rudra abhishekam Ritual bathing:  The core of the ceremony is the abhishekam, or sacred bathing, of the Shiva Lingam with various substances like:

  • Milk
  • Honey
  • Ghee (clarified butter)
  • Curd (yogurt)
  • Sugar
  • Coconut Water
  • Panchamrut (a mixture of the above five items)


Chanting:Vedic mantras, particularly the Shri Rudram from the Yajur Veda, are chanted throughout the ritual. Chanting the 108 names of Lord Shiva is also a key component.
